Marilyn Manson – The last day on earth
He has been blamed for Columbine (without anybody actually bothering to check… turned out the shooters didn’t even like his music, then again, they blamed “doom” as well). People have quoted him as saying his shows are satanic rituals (he never said that, in fact, he said almost exactly the opposite). Basically he has become the favorite scapegoat for the right. Not too long ago, that title belonged to Guns and Roses, and before them to ACDC, and even earlier to Alice Cooper and Black Sabath.
The point of course is, that the much maligned is hardly ever the deserving.
What is true about Manson’s music is that it is incredibly honest. He has a poetic talent that is incredibly rare in the music world, most of his lyrics contain a multitude of neologisms which are nevertheless clear in meaning – that takes skill.
Well we haven’t done a songday in ages, so I felt it was high-time. Allow me then to welcome on the silentcoder.co.za stage Marilyn Manson with his extremely Vonnegut-esque: The last day on earth.
Yesterday was a million years ago
in all my past lives I played an asshole
now I found you, it´s almost too late
and this earth seems obliviating
we are trembling in our crutches
high and dead our skin is glass
I´m so empty here without
I crack and split my xerox hands
I know its the last day on earth
we´ll be together while the planet dies
I know it´s the last day on earth we´ll never say goodbye
The dogs slaughter each other softly
love burns its casualities
we are damaged provider modules
spill the seeds at our children´s feet
I´m so empty here without you
I know they want me dead
I know its the last day on earth
we´ll be together while the planet dies
I know it´s the last day on earth
we´ll never say goodbye
