Today I installed the newly released PCLinuxOS 2007, a few quick synaptic grabs to get Nvidia installed (note: the default repo has dropped the packages for this – probably because it was getting flooded, just enable some more), and then I used the control center and enabled my Beryl powered 3D desktop… who the hell needs VISTA ?
This is so cool.
For some time now us PCLOS fans have been holding out for this release, which promised some serious cool. It was easy to install, quick to migrate and it retains that sense of fun that I liked about it in the first place (and still has some obvious cases where the way-back-when OL influence does shine through).
So my short review of the new release is: AWESOME.
Only downside is the lack of an easy upgrade – luckily my data is on a sepperate partition, but for people without that it could (unfortunately) be a bit tricky. This however, only influences current PCLOS users. If you are upgrading, please make sure you do a backup first.
Watch out for some exciting OutKast news regarding PCLOS soon to come.
