I felt in a [tag]funny[/tag] mood today, decided to make up one of those [tag]top 10[/tag] lists, picked an appropriately [tag]cynical[/tag] topic, made a list, blogged the results. I hope to inspire some dark-comic smiles.

10) You woke up this morning floating down a river… in a different country
9) Your significant other had a gender-change last night… and chose to let you ‘find out for yourself’
8) Alcohol seems to have no effect on you
7) You just drove over a cliff… that wasn’t there yesterday.
6) You’ve been hit by lightning 42 times…. since lunch
5) You woke up this morning in a full body cast… asking what happened merely causes the nursing staff to break out in giggles.
4) You’ve just been attacked by a dinosaur.
3) You seem to be the first person in 150 years to develop the black plague.
2) A giant grasshopper swarm ate your garden and lawn yesterday – nobody else lost a leaf.

And my number 1 sign that $DEITY hates you:
1) You’ve just been told that your life insurance is cancelled due to ‘imminent disqualification’

So last night we went to see [tag]transformers[/tag].
Whaaaaoooooooooooooooooo   !!!!!!!!!

It isn’t deep. It’s not very art. In fact the way the autobots talk just like in the cartoons… it’s almost juvenile… only it’s not just juvenile. What it is, is one hell of a lot of fun. The “Sam’s happy time” scene had me screaming with laughter.
[tag]Michael Bay[/tag] took on one hell of a challenge. Take a series of characters popularized by a Saturday morning cartoon inspired by a series of toys, and while staying true to them, make a real movie that adults can also enjoy (keeping in mind most Transformers fans are now adults), I think he pulled it off, by offsetting the transformer’s formulaic dialogue and storyline with a very sharp satire of typical teenage adventure movies, war movies and political intrigue.
Basically if there is art in there, it’s in a very subtle satirizing of modern effects-mad Hollywood and their creations.
The effects guys here certainly had a great time, and of course any movie where the geek gets the girl has automatic kudos from me. Of course there is one major interesting thing about this. Most movies come out, and inspire action figures. This time, we had action figures, which inspired a cartoon which then inspired a movie… it’s completely backward !
In the end though, I come back to the conclusion I started from. The movie is serious fun. Not just funny, fun. This much fun would normally cost you a lot more than a movie ticket. Go see it.

shivering with the fever of a bad flu. I was perfectly fine when I left Cape Town, start coughing a little while on the plane, was feeling quite sick by the afternoon, and really sick by the evening.
I had a big multi-hour meeting this morning which I handled as best I could with my fevered head, went pretty well though – I know this stuff :) .
Now I am back at SNNA headquarters feeling like I got hit by a truck, and hoping to feel better before 2pm when the schoolnet staff returns. The downside of the timeshift is that everything feels 1 hour later for me than it is -so I get an extra hour’s worth more tired with each action.
Still, I think the visit will be fruitful, the flu despite.

Early tomorrow morning, me and the silentwife will be boarding a plane to [tag]Namibia[/tag] to visit Joris and schoolnet. As many of my longterm readers know, I have quite a history with [tag]schoolnet[/tag], as they are the organisation that has rolled out the largest delivery of [tag]Linux[/tag] based computers to poor schools in African history, and they did so using [tag]openlab[/tag], a project I used to head the development off.

As I mentioned, the wife will be joining me and we’ll be staying at NARREC (something I think she will enjoy). I will be spending the time meeting with Joris, Aune, Uwe and perhaps a few other people to discuss some very interesting possibilities for the future. I will report more on the actual meetings after they actually take place however, rather than to speculate on their exact content/outcome just yet.

In the meantime, this means I will be out of cellphone contact from Tomorrow until Saturday so if you need to reach me, please send e-mail.

I have apparently (despite fierce resistance) been infected by  the [tag]icanhascheezburger[/tag] [tag]meme[/tag]. In these cases, there is nothing to do but go with the flow…
Thanks to [tag]netwrm[/tag] for the pic of Oliver.

Some more enhancements to the [tag]silentcoder[/tag] blog experience for ya’ll today. Firstly I switched themes now that my customized version of [tag]losemymind[/tag] is finally working. Special note of thanks to Pic from [tag]#sporks[/tag] for pointing in the right direction with that last little niggling issue.
Rumour has it that the blog is not quite perfect in 800×600 resolution yet though – I’ll look into that real soon now.
Please note that the comment counts are no longer shown in big blocks under the posts but rather in lightgray numbers next to the titles, it’s cleaner and easier to navigate I think.
Another recent addition is some pretty extensive expansion on my [tag]blogroll[/tag] to make it much more relevant to my actual list of regularly read blogs.

I felt like a classic today. Something from the legendary [tag]Twisted Sister[/tag] should do it nay ? These guys need no introduction, so without further ado – please max out your cranial volume, spin the imaginary [tag]vinyl[/tag] and rock out to…

Twisted Sister
 Welcome to the abandoned land
come on in child, take my hand
here there’s no work or play
 only one bill to pay
there’s just five words to say
as you go down, down, down

 you’re gonna burn in hell
 oh, burn in hell

you can’t believe all the things i’ve done wrong in my life
without even trying i’ve lived on the edge of a knife
well, i’ve played with fire, but i don’t want to get myself burned
to thine own self be true, so i think that it’s time for a turn

 before i burn in hell
 oh, burn in hell

take a good look in your heart, tell me what do you see?
It’s black and it’s dark, now is that how you want it to be?
It’s up to you, what you do will decide your own fate
make your choice now for tomorrow may be far too late

and then you’ll burn in hell
 hear no evil, don’t you
 see no evil, don’t you
 oh, burn in hell
lay no evil down on me
 you’re gonna burn in hell
 speak no evil, don’t you
 think no evil, don’t you
 oh, burn in hell
play with evil, ’cause i’m free

 hear no evil, don’t you
 see no evil, don’t you
lay no evil down on me
 you’re gonna burn in hell
 speak no evil, don’t you
 think no evil, don’t you
play with evil, ’cause i’m free
 you’re gonna burn in hell
 hear no evil, don’t you
 see no evil, don’t you
lay no evil down on me
 you’re gonna burn in hell
 speak no evil, don’t you
 think no evil, don’t you
play with evil, ’cause i’m free
 you’re gonna burn in hell

hear no evil, don’t you see no evil
 oh, burn in hell
don’t you lay no evil down on me
 you’re gonna burn in hell
speak no evil, don’t you think no evil,
 oh, burn in hell
don’t you play with evil, ’cause i’m free
 you’re gonna burn in hell
hear no evil, don’t you see no evil
 oh, burn in hell
don’t you lay no evil down on me
